I’m just down the road from Monmouth and I’ve repaired many computers from there. I run a superb computer drop-off service in the centre of Ross-on-Wye, with a fast repair turn-around for your convenience. Whether you have a virus, experiencing annoying pop-ups and adverts, or just a slow computer, I’m here to help.
This is mainly a repair service for computers and laptops, I do currently repair netbooks but tablets and iPad mini’s – generally are a no-no; usually because they are pretty much designed to be thrown away. Regular iPads can be fixed though, and have replacement screens installed.
We’ve repaired quite a few games consoles so if you own an Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One or Wii, and you’re having problems, get in touch with us right away.
Laptops are susceptible to overheating; main reason being is because the dust vent in the fan bay gets blocked with damp dust and pet hairs. This clogs the cooling vent, the fan, and ultimately the build-up of heat damages the components over a short period of time. Laptops have improved over time with reliable chipsets and better 2.5″ hard drive technology upgrade options, including hybrid SSD (combination of platter and solid state hard-drives), SSD’s and faster platter-based hard drives. These days most Windows 7 and Windows 8 laptops are sadly manufactured with poor hard drives, and this is the most common device on a laptop to fail, usually do to shock, mistreatment and general hard-drive failure.
Netbooks have been completely surpassed by tablets, but some people still find a netbook to be far superior and easier to use than a touch screen tablet. Netbooks do come without a DVD drive, which limits its capabilities as a multimedia DVD player that you can take on holiday with you. You can opt for a hard-drive upgrade and thus, allowing you to download clips using BBC iplayer and such. Netbooks can be upgraded and the operating systems can be upgraded to Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Desktops are poorly manufactured, and like laptops, have poor components. They do last longer and the technology with 3.5″ desktop hard-drives is more tried-and-tested, and as a result, the hard-drives last longer. Desktop PC’s are more susceptible to PSU (power supply unit) failures, and Monmouth is well known for power surges, and spikes, which will put a desktop PC’s PSU on it’s knees. Desktop computers have a fantastic and distinct advantage however; they can be upgraded with ease, and additional hard-drives, DVD drives, and DIMM memory slots can all be changed. Even the graphics card can be changed, as well as the power supply unit.
